World Book Night 2012

April 24th, 2012 by sally

Thanks to Andrew and Sharon from Cafe 19, Judith and I spent a thoroughly enjoyable hour outside in the sunshine giving out our chosen book The Book Thief to customers of Cafe 19 and passers by.  It was lovely to see the look of surprise on people’s faces when we explained that the book was actually free and there were no hidden catches!!  24 smiling faces walked away hugging their World Book Night book and we hope they will enjoy what we believe is a great read and pass it on to someone else to enjoy too!  If you would like to find out more about World Book Night or how to become a giver yourself next year please see their website: www.worldbooknight.org.

Dame Harriet Walter comes to Frinton

April 24th, 2012 by sally

A wonderful evening was had by all last Saturday at Frinton Golf Club with Dame Harriet Walter, who inspired us to appreciate what we have and who we are.  Harriet’s latest book Facing It  is a collection of photographs of mature women from around the world who are truly beautiful despite their age.  Her belief is that as we grow older our faces take on a new and different beauty, which should be celebrated, not attacked with botox and ‘uplifting’ surgery!!  Anyone who missed the evening can take a look at this book and Harriet’s first book Other People’s Shoes in the shop.
