In the spring of 2010, the Mayor of Frinton and Walton, Councillor Rober Bucke, had the wonderful idea of bringing the cinema back to Frinton. With the help of Caxton Books, he successfully ran two screenings to raise money for his charities. So, when in 2011 his term as Mayor came to an end, he asked us if we would continue with the venture and Cinema-on-Sea was born!
From September to June, we have monthly screenings of new and exciting films on a Saturday night. The doors open at 7pm with wine and refreshments for sale at the bar and the performance starts at 7.30pm. There is an intermission half way through the film, so you can stretch your legs or taste some of our delicious locally made ice-cream!

FORTHCOMING DATES
The Lady in the Van
Certificate: 12A. Running Time: 1 hours 44 minutes
Two-time Oscar winner and star of “Downton Abbey”, Dame Maggie Smith, recreates one of her most celebrated roles – the singular Miss Shepherd – in The Lady in the Van, Alan Bennett’s big-screen comedic adaptation of his own iconic memoir and honoured stage play.
Based on the true story, Miss Shepherd was a woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. What began as a begrudged favour became a relationship that would change both their lives. Filmed on the street and in the house where Bennett and Miss Shepherd lived for all those years, acclaimed director Nicholas Hytner reunites with Bennett (The Madness of King George, The History Boys) to bring this funny, poignant, and life-affirming story to the screen.
Brooklyn
Certificate: 12A. Running Time: 1 hours 51 minutes
Brooklyn is a 2015 Irish-British-Canadian romantic drama directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Hornby, based on Colm Tóibín‘s novel of the same name. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent, and Julie Walters. Set in 1951 and 1952, the film tells the story of a young Irish woman’s immigration to Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within them for her.
The film was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
